@phil Script to Screen : Character Design

from my feedback and from Simon's help, I decided to use illustrator as the starting point for my design, this helped me achieve cleaner lines and curves in my work and helped me a lot in time management, I then exported my design and added final touches in Photoshop.

(Incomplete) Script to Screen OGR 2

Script to Screen by Sam on Scribd

This is an unfinished Ogr, due to poor time management that I accept needs to be changed, I will continue work for the requirements of the OGR and will upload a completed presentation asap.

I have about four frames left for my storyboard, further character, prop and environment designs and also the script.

(apologise for not having a completed ogr on time)

Script to Screen: Influence Map 1

For my influence map, I looked into different variations of wastelands as my environment is going to be an wasteland on an alien planet, I also looked into futuristic styled windmills and concept work from the film Megamind as this is a possible design idea for my Rocket Scientist.

Story idea 2

Uses power from his home in the windmill to generate energy for his rocket
Alien go to earth to steal trees, then takes back and they die
Bring second lot to windmill and uses power to generate air to keep alive
Uses trees for Xmas and (possibly turns them into a rocket)

Story idea:

There was an alien scientist who wanted to explore new cultures and planets, he came across earth and at this time it was christmas and the scientist wanted to have a christmas for himself.

The alien scientist got in his spaceship and travelled to earth, he gathered some christmas trees and cam back to his own planet, he planted the trees outside but the land was a wasteland and the christmas tree's died. This made him feel sad and so he got the idea of making his home which was a windmill into a machine that would produce oxygen so that his christmas trees would survive.

he travels back to earth to gather more trees and brings them back home with him, this time the christmas trees survived and so he could finally celebrate christmas himself.

(possible add on to the story)

after the rocket scientist had celebrated his christmas, he made the christmas trees into rockets for a final send off, he sets off the rockets and they explode into a shower of snow.

Break down:

Uses power from his home in the windmill to generate energy for his rocket
Alien goes to earth to steal christmas trees, then takes them back home, the trees die
and so he goes and gets more, and turns then windmill into a generator, he uses power to generate air to keep the trees alive.

Uses trees for Xmas and (possibly turns them into a rocket)

(wasn't too sure how to finally get my idea across, but hopefully this will make enough sence to understand the plot of the story)

Script to Screen : Story idea

Script to Screen Story Idea

Ideas:

Rocket Scientist, Windmill, Christmas Tree

A Rocket Scientist called Rick loved christmas time as one of his best memories of christmas was when he was just 8 years old and his mum had bought him a model rocket set, it was the racer red colour that rick always said made his rocket the fastest ever created with the streamline wings that sliced throughout the air, well this was ricks imagination of course but never stopped him believing in the wonders of science and technology.  Ever since that moment Rick became obsessed with the ideas and designs of all types of rockets, he started to find random objects such as a microwave or even a slipper and turned it into a rocket, he found comfort and joy every time his work was finished but never felt that he had fully achieved his goals and happiness he needed a design that was going to fulfil his goals.

Rick decided to move to an old windmill on the far cliffs of his home town so he was able to finally set up his workshop and begin his experiments.

He struggles and struggles to find the design he is looking for and by this time christmas had come around yet again, he was there sitting in his living room just staring at his christmas tree, when all of a sudden he came up with the idea of making the christmas tree into a rocket, so he got to work , days and days he spent working on his grand design, until he had finally made it, he stood there in aue at his grand design and finally felt he had achieved his goal and felt fulfilled in his work.

he sets off the rocket and it explodes into a shower of white light.

Surgeon Face Experiments

Here I experimented with various ways to show the surgeons eyes which was my main focus in this experiment, I also added minor details to the mask of the surgeon.

Surgeon designs: experimenting

Here I made some rough ideas of my surgeon just to get a feel of what he looked like and experimented with the colours.  I tried to stick to the generic surgeon uniform colours, but seeing how he is like a home surgeon I may make the colours more casual looking.

For the second design, I experimented with a non-human looking character with claws for hands and a different skin colour, I did this just to experiment with what I thought would work and if a change from a human doctor would give my character that extra edge.

Character Design: Environments

Here Are Three designs, that I had to do in my character design lesson's.

I was given an Evil Santa's Workshop and had to come up with some environmental images for that concept.

Surgery Exterior/Interior: Influence Maps

My idea for the exterior of the surgery was a small house/building that seemed very innocent and one the passers by would not take any notice of other than it was a surgery.

For the interior of the surgery I went very dark with, dark rooms, blood stained floor, a long hallway leading to the basement, I also put in an idea for the collection which was glass display cases holding various body parts.

Influence Map: Surgeon

Here are a few ideas that helped me give a design to my surgeon, I have looked into game design, film design and animation design.

Script to Screen: Character Ideas

Here is a design for my surgeon I thought I should make him old  but also give him some deformities which would give him reason to be obsessed with his collection, I had an idea of making all the people bug like just so everything wasn't so normal and human but I have not yet fully considered this.

I have also done a design for a patient, I made the man obese as this would give him reason to go to a cosmetic surgeon, I thought the fat look would be good as well as in my view it gave me more room for character design rather than a skinny patient. I like the idea as this will fit in well with my story.

Character Lesson :2

Here I took a simple character and gave it a variety of aspects to form a new and different character.
